All of the
Christ Church support groups are open to those in the
community as well as those in the church. Most of the groups
arose out of the needs of members and provide a
Christian-based approach. Several groups are from the
community and use our facilities with participation from our
members.
Depression
Support
This group
is for persons with depression or other mood disorders and for
interested family members. It is a joint venture with St.
Clair Hospital and is facilitated by one of our members who is
a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist. The group meets on
the 1st and 3rd Thursday evenings for
both education and small group support.
Caregivers
Support
The strain
of caring for a frail elderly spouse or parent is often
unremitting. Caregivers is a support service of the Christ
Church Prime Time Adult Day Care Center. It meets monthly o
the third Wednesday evening and is open to all in the church
and community. Usually there’s a speaker followed by group
interaction. Care is provided for the elderly family member.
Divorce
Recovery
This is a
12-week course designed to provide support and nurture for
those experiencing the often harsh reality of separation or
divorce. The course is on Monday evenings, beginning in
September and February.
Faithfully Fit
For those
who are overweight, the emphasis is always on pounds lost or
gained. Weigh-down teaches that dieting is not the answer.
This is a biblically based, lifestyle-change group intent on
healthy living. The facilitator is a church member who
experienced success with this program. Meetings are Tuesdays
for 12 weeks.
Grief Support
This is an
occasional ten-week course designed to create a healing
community for those grieving over the death of a spouse. It
meets on Monday nights. This group is under the direction of
Membership Care.
AIDS Support
For family
members dealing with HIV or AIDS, this group provides loving
support. As a part of Membership Care, facilitators are a
minister and several members who have experienced this
situation. Meeting times are determined by need.
In partnership with community
groups…
Leukemia
Family Support Group
Meeting the
fourth Tuesday evening of each month, this is for patients and
family members of those with leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease,
lymphoma, and myeloma. Facilitators are from the Leukemia
Society.
Kidney
Support
Facilitated
by a church member with a kidney transplant, this group is for
those on dialysis or with potential kidney failure. It offers
emotional support and provides information on available
treatments. The group is sponsored by the Kidney Foundation
of Western PA.
Overeaters
Anonymous
This group
is a local chapter of the national organization of the same
name. They meet weekly on Wednesday mornings to provide
support for breaking their food addiction.
