Mark was
born in South Carolina and raised in Dade City, Florida. He
grew up singing in the children’s and youth choirs in the
local Baptist church, and began to play the piano for various
church activities during high school. He began to study organ
during his senior year of high school.
In 1996,
Mark graduated from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida,
where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Theory. He
lived in Bloomington, Indiana from 1996-2001, where he earned
a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from Indiana
University, studying with Dr. Marilyn Keiser. He also pursued
post-Masters coursework in Sacred Music and Music Theory. Mark
taught freshman and sophomore music theory for five years as
an Associate Instructor at IU. While in Bloomington, he was
also Dr. Keiser’s Assistant Organist/Choirmaster at Trinity
Episcopal Church. From 2001-2003 he was Organist and
Choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lafayette,
Indiana.
In
September of 2003 Mark became Organist and Associate Director
of Music and Worship here at Christ Church. In coordination
with Duane and Linda, Mark plans the two traditional Sunday
morning services and chooses the hymns for Saturday night. He
plays the organ for Sunday worship and accompanies the Chancel
Choir, Chapel Choir, and Wesley Singers. He assists Linda with
the planning and direction of the choirs and music program.
Mark also directs the Boychoir and serves as staff liaison to
the Altar Guild.
