Mark Reed

Mark was born in South Carolina and raised in Dade City, Florida. He grew up singing in the children’s and youth choirs in the local Baptist church, and began to play the piano for various church activities during high school. He began to study organ during his senior year of high school.

In 1996, Mark graduated from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Theory. He lived in Bloomington, Indiana from 1996-2001, where he earned a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from Indiana University, studying with Dr. Marilyn Keiser. He also pursued post-Masters coursework in Sacred Music and Music Theory. Mark taught freshman and sophomore music theory for five years as an Associate Instructor at IU. While in Bloomington, he was also Dr. Keiser’s Assistant Organist/Choirmaster at Trinity Episcopal Church. From 2001-2003 he was Organist and Choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lafayette, Indiana.

In September of 2003 Mark became Organist and Associate Director of Music and Worship here at Christ Church. In coordination with Duane and Linda, Mark plans the two traditional Sunday morning services and chooses the hymns for Saturday night. He plays the organ for Sunday worship and accompanies the Chancel Choir, Chapel Choir, and Wesley Singers. He assists Linda with the planning and direction of the choirs and music program. Mark also directs the Boychoir and serves as staff liaison to the Altar Guild.

If you would like more information about any of the wide variety of ways to participate in worship and music at Christ Church – choirs, handbells, communion preparation, chancel cleaning, sanctuary decorations, Taizé, and more – please contact Mark or Linda.
