Why do you need a church family?

1. A Church Family moves you out of self-centered isolation

If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts suffer with it. Or if one part of our body is honored, all the other parts share its honor. 1 Corinthians 12:26

As participating members you learn to care about others and share the experiences of others. Only regular contact with ordinary, imperfect believers can we learn real fellowship and experience the New Testament truth of being connected and dependent on each other.

2. A Church Family helps you develop spiritual muscle

As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Ephesians 4:16

You will never grow to maturity just by attending worship services and being a passive spectator. Only participation in the full life of a local church builds spiritual muscle.

3. The Body of Christ needs you.

A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church.

1 Corinthians 12:7

God has a unique role for you to play in his family. This is called your ministry and God has gifted you for this assignment. Your local fellowship is the place God designed for you to discover, develop and use your gifts.

4. You will share in Christ’s mission in the world

He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we better be doing. Ephesians 2:10

The church is God’s instrument on earth. We are not just to model God’s love by loving each other; we are to carry it together to the rest of the world. As members of Christ’s body we are his hands, his feet, his eyes and his heart. He works through us in the world.

What are the steps in the Christ Church membership process?

  1. Sign up online or email CARRI REDA or call 412-835-6621 x22
  2. Attend membership classes or schedule an alternate meeting time if class schedule is not an option at this time.
  3. Attend a worship service with other new members to take the vows of membership.

What are the personal requirements for membership @ Christ Church?

  1. BAPTISM -

Through baptism we are joined with the church and with Christians everywhere.
Baptism is a symbol of new life and a sign of God's love and forgiveness of our sins.
Persons of any age can be baptized.
We baptize by sprinkling, immersion or pouring.
A person receives the sacrament of baptism only once in his or her life.

If you have not been baptized, a baptism ceremony can be
performed prior to joining the church

Designations of membership:
All faith backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to become a part of our church family. The following designations are available:
Profession of Faith: For those who have never joined a church before. A public declaration of your faith in God for the first time. You will be asked to kneel for a special blessing by the pastor as part of your membership vows.
Transfer: For those who have been an active member in any other Protestant church. We will send a letter of transfer to that church.
Reaffirmation of Faith: For those with no active Protestant membership, or those coming from Roman Catholic or Orthodox traditions, reaffirmation of your faith will be a part of your new membership.

Vows of Membership:
There are four questions asked during the vows ceremony:

1.      Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord and pledge your allegiance to His kingdom?

2.      Do you receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the scriptures of the Old and New Testament?

3.      Do you promise, according to the grace given you, to lead a Christian life and remain a faithful member of Christ’s Holy Church?

4.      Will you commit yourself to Connect, Grow, Give and Serve as part of your Christian journey in this community of believers?

More information about membership is available by calling Carri Reda at the church office (412) 835-6621, ext. 22, or by emailing her at creda@christumc.net.
